Oklahoma decides to gamble on its future

With the passage of State Questions 705 and 706 Oklahoma has decide to gamble on its future. Those who voted for the lottery justified their vote by using catchy phrases like, the lottery will improve education, the lottery will save jobs, and the lottery will keep money in Oklahoma. These justifications are all lies. The real motivating factor behind the lottery is money. The state government will collect the money from Oklahomans that believe their road to riches is to win the lottery and Oklahoma lottery players will spend money, they could invest to become financially independent, on a get rich quick scam that by design steals more money than it pays out.

Mike at Okiedoke posted a narrow-minded quote by Oklahoma's supposedly open-minded Governor:

Governor Brad Henry publicly thanked voters for approving the [lottery]; saying [the lottery] was the only way to save Oklahoma education.

Do you think money scammed from lottery players will be ear marked to fund education programs for Oklahoma's children to teach them how to become financially independent by; saving money, avoiding credit card debt, and not playing the lottery? Hell no! The lottery will teach the next generation of Oklahomans that gambling helps the children, the teachers, and Oklahoma. Gambling is a self-destructive behavior that increases the likelihood of bankruptcy, poverty, crime, ignorance, homelessness, overwhelming debt, and divorce.

Oklahoma has chosen to gamble its future and Oklahoma will pay the price.

If Oklahomans would actually vote for a tax increase, then that would have been the way to go. Unfortunately, our population isn't that smart. We'll see if they are smart enough to vote for the fuel tax for highways but I have my doubts.

Oklahomans finally did the right thing in getting a state lottery. If people want to use thier money for that then that is their business. Same goes for tattooes but we cant have them here since our state government feels we cant decide for ourselves. One day the bible thumpers will be out of the oklahoma capital and we will catch up to everyone else. Good Job Gov. Henry.
